The Mid-Columbia Economic Development District (MCEDD) Board adopted the Wasco County Transit Development Plan in June 2022. Wasco County contracts with MCEDD to provide County-wide transit service. The Transit Development Plan proposes a 20-year transit investment plan to enhance and improve the service. Prior to bringing the Transit Development Plan for consideration before the Wasco County Board of County Commissioners in summer 2023, the Planning Department has been conducting public outreach. A particular focus for this outreach is with seasonal agriculture and tourism employers and employees. The County also conducted targeted outreach to South Wasco County residents in the Maupin, Pine Grove, Simnasho, Tygh Valley, Wamic and Warm Springs areas. The County received a State Rural Transportation Equity grant to complete this work.
Project manager Alice Cannon conducted interviews with South County tourism and seasonal agriculture employers around The Dalles. A team also sought responses to a transportation survey from South County residents at Maupin and Wamic events in mid-April. Links to the results of these surveys are included here. The project team will conduct more outreach with cherry growers and Spanish-speaking seasonal agriculture employers in early to mid-June. Stay tuned for project updates on this page.
