Rod Runyon


Getting here from there: Rod operated an Insurance and Financial Services Agency for 25 years. Most of those years were as a self-employed small business owner and operator. He sold his office and retired from that field in 2009. He is well known for a parallel career in Radio and TV that spanned 15 years full time and more than 3 decades altogether as an independent contractor and as a volunteer. While recognized for his broadcast career in the Mid Columbia, he also worked for Stations in Medford , Coos Bay and facilities in Idaho and California. In addition to stints as a News Director, Talk Show Host and in Sports Play-by-Play, Rod was also the Operations Manager and Program Director at several facilities. As a younger man he is proud of his hands on Life experiences as a jackhammer operator, mill laborer, Dynamiters Chuck Tender, road construction laborer, Weigh Master/Clerk for the Union Pacific and as a civilian worker for the United States Army at Fort Sheridan Illinois

Governmental Service: Serving as Wasco County Commissioner since January 2011. Served 8 years as Commissioner to the Port of The Dalles. Appointed to 4 years on the City of The Dalles Planning Commission.

Present & Past Community Service: Currently the North East Oregon District Captain and Ride Captain for the Patriot Guard Riders. Numerous Public and Volunteer Boards and Community Committees since 1971. Service organizations have included Rotary (President), Life Underwriters (President), Lions and the Jaycees.
