911 Communications Center
Please reserve 9-1-1 calls for
EMERGENCIES so that people
with true EMERGENCIES will be
able to get through when they
need to.

The Wasco County Sheriff operates the 911 Communication Center. The Communication Center is known as a PSAP (Public Safety Answering Point) and receives 911 calls from the area of Wasco County except for the portion of the county on Warm Springs Indian Reservation. The Center also receives business calls for several emergency response agencies.

Wasco County Communications dispatches for all Law Enforcement, Fire and EMS agencies for Wasco County. We also dispatch for the neighboring fire agency of Dallesport.  The Center is managed by a 911 Operations Manager and has 11 full time dispatchers.

Newly hired dispatchers must attend a three week Basic Telecommunicator Class and a three day EMD (emergency medical dispatcher) class at the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training Academy in Salem, as part of their training. Training for the position typically takes 5 months before a dispatcher is released to work without a trainer.

Our 911 Center provides service for 22 agencies. If you call 9-1-1 in Wasco County you will get one of the Wasco County Dispatchers, if you call a business line you will get the same Dispatchers.  Our Center is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

For the year of 2023 our center logged 35,908 calls for service for the agencies that we serve. During that period we answered 17,364 911 phone calls and 42,905 business line calls for a total of 60,269 phone calls for the year.

Please reserve 9-1-1 calls for EMERGENCIES so people with true EMERGENCIES will be able to get through for the assistance they require. Business lines are available to call for both The Dalles Police and Wasco County Sheriff if you do not have an emergency that is an immediate threat to life or property.
