Investigations

Patrol Deputies initiate most crime reports and are responsible for doing the follow up investigations when possible. Some cases, however, are so extensive that the follow up investigation is done by detectives. Homicides, felony sex crimes, child or elder abuse and major property crimes are examples of crimes that would be referred to Investigations.

The Sheriff's Office participates in the Mid-Columbia Interagency Narcotics Team with the assignment of one full time detective to the team. This team is comprised of detectives from The Dalles City Police, Hood River County Sheriff, Hood River City Police and Wasco County Sheriff. The team works narcotics investigations in Hood River and Wasco Counties and occasionally will assist in Sherman County.

The Investigations Division is supervised by a Detective Sergeant. There are normally two detectives assigned, one for general law violations and one assigned to narcotics enforcement (MINT).
